ADRIATIC A.R.C.H.E’. PROJECT

[singlepic=11,320,240,,right] A.R.C.H.E’. is an Onlus organisation. The research project focuses on interactions between marine turtles and fishing methods used in Porto Garibaldi (Italy); tagging and recapture; stranded animals; education program for fishermen; education program for tourists on marine turtles.

  • SPP.: Loggerhead turtles.
  • HABITAT The coast line between “Sacca di Goro” and the mouth of the Reno River.
  • LOCATION: Northwestern Adriatic Sea.
  • TRAVEL: Train from the Bologna airport to city of Ravenna or Ferrara or “Ostellato”(nearest). Here there are some bus to Porto Garibaldi.
  • DURATION: Min. 1 week.
  • PERIOD: June, July, September.
  • LIMIT TERM: There is no limit of time for long-term stays. Ask to ARCHE’.
  • AGE: Min. 18.
  • QUALIFICATION: No special qualification are required for the volunteers. Enthusiastic, adaptability and good temperament, hardworking people, love for animals and capability to live with other people.
  • WORK: Educational activities among tourists on the beach; collecting data on stranded animals; when the fishing boat will come back to the harbour, data on marine turtles incidentally captured by fishing nets will be collected. According to fishing boat availability, volunteers and researcher will go on board to experience a fishing day (for 12/14 hours). In order to go on board, it will be necessary to wake up very early in the morning. Is possible walking a lot on the beach.
  • LANGUAGE: Italian (an basic knowledge of this language can favour the socialization among volunteers and fishermen) , English.
  • ACCOMODATION:The camp is based in a house near Porto Garibaldi. Personal sleeping bag and equipment are required. Cooking facilities and hot shower are available in the house.
  • CONTRIBUTION: The partecipation fee for the year 2009 is 200,00 euros per person per week. 1 week  200,00 Euros + 15,00 euros Arche membership
    • 2 weeks 360,00 Euros + 15,00 euros Arche membership
    • 3 weeks 520,00 Euros + 15,00 euros Arche membership
    • 4 weeks 640,00 Euros + 15,00 euros Arche membership
    • Every extra week: 150,00 Euros

The project contribution includes:

  • The Arche Membership card
  • Accomodation
  • Three meals a day
  • Personal insurance
  • A donation to the project
  • Training and supervision

            Not included in the contribution

  • Travel expenses to and from the project
  • Other transfers
  • Any excursions undertaken by the volunteers
  • Personal expenses (like internet, telephone bills, snaks etc)
